Sourdough Starter
To bake delicious sourdough bread, you'll first need a sourdough starter. Here's a simple recipe to help you get started.
Bread
Ingredients
- 200 ml lukewarm water (40°C), divided (2 × 100 ml)
60 g organic strong white bread flour, divided (2 × 30 g)
Follow these steps
Day 1
- Mix 100 ml of lukewarm water (40°C) with 30 g of organic strong white bread flour in a clean glass jar with a lid. Stir until smooth, then close the lid. Place the jar in a warm spot in your kitchen where the temperature is stable and not too cold.
Days 2–3
- Open the lid and stir the starter once in the morning and once in the evening. Do not tighten the lid completely—leave it slightly loose to allow airflow.
Day 4
- Stir the starter, then discard most of it, leaving just a small amount in the bottom of the jar and on the sides. Feed the remaining starter with 100 ml of lukewarm water (40°C) and 30 g of organic strong white bread flour. Stir well and place the lid back on loosely.
Day 5
- Your sourdough starter should now be bubbly, active and roughly doubled in size, ready for baking. If it isn't bubbly yet, leave it for another day, move it to a warmer spot or continue feeding it once or twice more until it becomes active.
